Common Questions

Sarah Calvert of Styling Mrs Oliver answers the most commonly asked questions about consulting a personal stylist.

Q How much money do I need to shop?

A You tell me. I am here to help you look great in anything from High Street level to high-end designer fashion. Let me know how much you have to spend and we will budget accordingly. If you go for a wardrobe refresh, you may discover you don't need to buy very much. I will devote the time to researching what you need outside our designated consultancy time and will send you a shortlist ahead of our shopping trip for you to review.

Q What can Styling Mrs Oliver offer me?

A I have worked as a designer on many brands over the years, including Joseph in the UK and David Lawrence here in Australia. I have a great eye for what looks good on all age groups and sizes. I have designed and put together ranges for casual and working wardrobes, party, racewear and the mother of the bride to sassy bridesmaids for weddings. I sourced fabrics, selected colours and translated trends from the catwalks. When we shop, I will look for high-quality materials that will last the test of time and flatter your shape.

Q What kind of people do you work with?

A I mostly work with women who simply don't have time in their schedule to deal with their wardrobe or they are looking for inspiration. Some are busy working executives with no time to shop; others are Mums who need a style pick-me-up, and many of my clients are seeking a fresh new look but are unsure of where to start. Changes in lifestyle, age and working environments are also a reason for women to need some support. My aim is to make life easier for you by taking the stress out of your shopping and ensure you get the right pieces for the season and beyond.

Q How much notice do I need to give you before a shopping trip?

A I usually need at least one week's notice, however, contact me and I will see what I can do for you.

Q What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

A Styling Mrs Oliver will try and fit you in at the next available opportunity. A cancellation fee of 50% of the total cost will apply if you cannot give 24 hours notice prior to the session.

Q How do I pay?

A 50% of the total fee must be transferred up front before the initial consultation. I will send you confirmation of your initial payment and then I will require your final payment 48 hours prior to our last scheduled appointment.

Q Where are you based?

A Styling Mrs Oliver is based in the Eastern Suburbs in Sydney but I am able to travel to you. There may be a travel fee added depending on your location. Please ask me about this when you get in contact.

Q Do you style men?

A Not at the moment but I will be launching Styling Mr Oliver in the future.

Q Where do you shop?

A It depends on your requirements and where you are based. Shopping centres can be a practical option for some, boutique shopping is preferred by others. Online and local shopping combined can be another good solution. I like to support my local area in Paddington and CBD where there is a huge variety of inspiring shops and arcades.

Q If I shop online, do I have to pay for the shipping?

A Yes, include the shipping cost in your shopping budget. I will only use established brands and online services that offer either a very low charge or even free shipping fees. Many of the more established companies offer free returns now and also reduced rates or free deliveries. I find that you can save a lot of money shopping this way even with the shipping costs factored in, perfect for those of you with little time on your hands.

Q Why should I come to you?

A Styling Mrs Oliver will help define YOUR STYLE. I will assist you by ensuring you have all your core basics covered, maximise what you already own and help coordinate some great outfits that you will love and cherish for many years to come.
